Born in Carrickfergus, Gráinne White, played her first concerto at 11, as leader of the NEELB Junior Orchestra.
By 16 she had won: Northern Ireland Young Musician of the Year; the Carrickfergus, Holywood and Mossgrove Open Strings
Championships; led the City of Belfast Youth Orchestra Violin II Section at the Royal Albert Hall for the last night of the Music For Youth Proms and became their Stephen Parker Award recipient. She has since developed her playing with the Ulster Youth Orchestra, through the Ulster Orchestra Professional Experience Scheme and now within the Royal Northern College of Music where she is now in her second year of undergraduate studies.
In September 2016 Gráinne took up her Music & Dance Scholarship as a ‘Specialist Musician’ at Wells Cathedral School. There she has led and co-led: ensembles; the Symphony Orchestra and the St Andrew’s Strings Chamber Orchestra, delivering challenging repertoire. One of the many highlights was performing the Mendelssohn Octet at Powderham Castle for the Earl and Countess of Devon.
Gráinne continues to develop her music making and instrumental skills through many collaborations with her colleagues at college in several different groups such as Classical, Folk and Jazz.
